“In Hong Kong, there are only Hong Kong, Kowloon and New Territories. But there is no Cecilia.”

This piece is inspired by Hong Kong novelist Dun Kai-cheung’s short story Cecilia. Perhaps we all have a Cecilia in mind: s/he is fresh and beautiful like a stream of water. Or perhaps we all shouldn’t keep this Cecilia in mind: because s/he is simply shameless and defiant. However, could I ever become or own him/her? I asked my father, my mother, my teacher and the experts, and they all replied, “In Hong Kong, there are only Hong Kong, Kowloon and New Territories. But there is no Cecilia.”
