To climb up there,
I am willing to sacrifice what’s down under.
“Zheng-he” is adapted from
“Descendants of the Eunuch Amiral”
– by the Singaporean playwright Pao Kun Kuo.
For a very long time, ‘he’ has dreamt of himself as Zheng-he, the legendary Eunuch Marshal who made his 7 voyages to the Atlantic. The dream has been so real that he had to touch himself when he woke up, just to make sure something remained safely there. He began to study the book of anecdotes at great length. Through reading about ‘Eunuch’, he uncovered the problems of identity and social hierarchy in the modern world. In the end, he became certain that he is the descendant of the Eunuch, Zheng-he.
Many people wish to become Zheng-he.
In the end, they could only become an ordinary eunuch.
